Huckberry: Wellen Swim Trunks

Huckberry is America’s one-stop shop for men with a taste for the outdoors lifestyle, that’s equal parts lifestyle retailer, brand, magazine and inspiration to “help guys suck the marrow out of life.” Wellen’s performance swim trunks are two pairs of shorts in one, built like a performance short featuring the softest lining on the market.

What We Did

Trevor is a really talented photographer based on the North Coast of New South Wales, where AAP’s Alex Libby is based for part of each year. They’d worked together previously, and Trevor was the perfect fit for this project that we produced for Huckberry whilst Alex was in Australia through the end of the Southern Hemisphere summer and into autumn/fall.

This production took the format of a micro-documentary following a “day in the life” of Alex in his role as an adventure athlete, featuring some surfing, training including a trail run, some in-ocean rock-running, a breath work session and a hike in to a waterfall in the NSW hinterland for a swim. Our aim was to showcase the versatility of these shorts going from one activity to the next, in and out of the water all day long, without compromise on performance or comfort.

Northern New South Wales has great weather and exceptional light at this time of year, with a range of incredible locations and natural settings all within a small radius which allowed us to shoot the shorts in a range of varied but relatable settings within a short shoot window – the benefits of a small, skilled and agile team who know the area intimately.
